Most cordyceps come from overseas. Ours don't.

The cordyceps market is flooded with imported product, bulk-produced, mass-dried, and shipped across the ocean before it reaches you. Quality varies wildly and traceability is often nonexistent.

Carolina Cordys is different. Our farmer cultivates cordyceps militaris on a family farm in North Carolina, dries them immediately at harvest to preserve potency, and ships them directly to you. You know exactly where it comes from, because it says it right in the name.

🌿

North Carolina
grown and proud of it.

Chris and Lauren have been farming this land in western North Carolina for over 30 years. Certified organic since 1997 — before the federal certification program existed. What started with herbs and produce sold to Whole Foods and Earth Fare has evolved into one of the only domestic cordyceps operations in the US.

No middlemen. No mystery origins. One farm, one product, fully traceable — and priced to compete with Chinese imports.

Cordyceps Militaris 101

What is it?

Cordyceps militaris is a species of parasitic fungus with a long history of use in traditional Asian medicine. Unlike the wild-harvested Cordyceps sinensis, which is rare and expensive, militaris can be cultivated with consistently high quality and is considered the superior commercial variety.

Why USA-grown?

Most cordyceps on the market is imported from China, where quality control and organic certification standards differ significantly from USDA requirements. USA-grown cordyceps under USDA Organic certification means you know exactly what was used in its cultivation, and what wasn't.

Dried vs. extract?

Dried whole fruiting body cordyceps preserves the full compound profile of the mushroom as nature produced it. Extracts concentrate certain compounds but remove others. Whole dried is the most complete form of the ingredient, and what we sell.

Got questions?

No. Cordyceps sinensis is a rare wild-harvested species, extremely expensive and often adulterated in the market. Carolina Cordys grows Cordyceps militaris, the cultivated species that research has focused on extensively and which is considered the superior commercial form due to its consistent compound profile and scalable production.
Add directly to coffee, tea, smoothies, soups, or any food preparation. The whole dried fruiting body can be ground if preferred for finer texture. No special preparation is required, just incorporate it into what you're already consuming.
USDA Organic certification means the cordyceps were grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers, and that the growing process, substrate, and handling all meet USDA National Organic Program standards. This is independently verified, not self-reported.
